In October 2009, Left Brain and I ventured to Ukraine to start our family. We adopted two precious little boys. We are currently wanting to expand our family by 2 more! We're looking into adoption again. Read along, see where our journeys take us.

Sweet Little Blue Eyes

The proud parents....moments after the verdict!

This is a photo from today....he was bundled up so tight!

Today was the first day of our every other day time with GQ. We didn't visit him today. Our day started with a visit to Blue Eyes around 10:30am. Left Brain and I walked to the orphanage and made a "b" line for the playground where Blue Eyes is usually playing when we arrive. We walked past a few other groups of children playing in different parts of the orphanage yard. We were walking and talking when Left Brain sorta stopped where he was and said, "that sounded like Blue Eyes." I said what was it. LB said he heard him say (in Russian), "My mama, that's my mama......PAPA!" We looked in that direction and we saw his caregiver motioning us over. They were playing in a new spot and we walked right past him. Blue Eyes must have been looking for us and saw us walk by. He started yelling at us...like, hey y'all....I'm over here....don't forget me! It was too cute.
When we walked over there he couldn't wait to get out of the gate and hug us. He held his arms up in the air for me to pick him up and carry him. He let me carry him for a while and made kissing noises at me. We spent the morning walking laps around the orphanage to stay in the sunlight. It was VERY cool this morning. It was so cool that Blue Eyes was wearing a coat and a toboggan. His toboggan wasn't quite big enough and the wind blew a little hard on our backs....hitting the back of his neck. It was so cool that he started whining. We had to pull his hood up over his toboggan and then he was ok. It was unusual that we didn't actually play today. He was fine walking around on the pavement....it kept us warmer in the sunlight. We picked up a few sticks and carried them around....but that was the extent of our playing. He was very sweet today. Just wanting to walk around and hold both of our hands. He also wanted to be carried quite a bit....bouncing back and forth between Left Brain and I. He was just in a very sweet mood. Such a loving little child. He's mama's baby!
After we visited Blue Eyes, we walked back to the apartment for a relaxing afternoon. We ate baked potatoes for lunch again and caught a few English episodes of friends on the internet. We just sorta layed around and watched tv. We've been so busy that we haven't had any down time yet. It was nice to do nothing.
We walked to a pizza restaurant down the street from the apartment for supper. Left Brain and I got a fairly large pizza and two Pepsi's for less than $5.00. Things are really cheap over here.
We have already had a skype session with Cindy and Traci today and are looking forward to hearing from others.

These are some photos of the orphanage where GQ is staying.

This is the only bookshelf of toys for all of the boys in the orphanage. GQ doesn't have anything that he can call his own. Everything is shared.

GQ playing with his "groupa" on the merry-go-round, spinney thing.

My little "Jamakon Mon". Isn't he cute?

This is the sippy cup he always has in his mouth.

Miles stealing the snack bag and grinning about it.

  2. I strongly, strongly, strongly recommend two books to order and have ready when you get home: Toddler Adoption,The Weaver's Craft is one the other I just got and wish we'd had it when we brought home our son from Ukraine at almost four years old: Parenting Your Internationally Adopted Child From Your First Hours Together Through the Teen Years by Cogen. If I had a do-over, I would definitely have used this.

  4. It must be the global warming. It's 55 and raining here. We haven't seen the sun in several days. Temps at night are 40's and maybe 30's all next week. Ashley & TJ are in PA and it is SNOWING there.:(( Yesterdays post with Max made me think of first graders who insist their parents ignore them in public. You'll get used to it! Sorry. Love you
