In October 2009, Left Brain and I ventured to Ukraine to start our family. We adopted two precious little boys. We are currently wanting to expand our family by 2 more! We're looking into adoption again. Read along, see where our journeys take us.

Gloomy and Rainy

Today we skipped our visit with Blue Eyes.....I know what you are thinking.....how in the world could you do that? Well, let me say this...When we woke up this morning it was FREZZING cold outside and raining. Remember, we have to walk about 2 blocks to his orphanage and it's all dirt road with HUGE potholes that fill up with water QUICKLY when it rains. Not to mention that these idiots forgot to bring coats....what?!?! you say....yes we forgot! So this morning we were being a little whiny and we didn't go.
Today was all about Mr. GQ. We got to his orphanage right after nap time....good time cause he was in a good mood. We got hugs and kisses hello. YAY! We gave him a notebook and pen because he loves to draw and pretend he's writing something important (they are actually just scribbles). He wrote in that notebook for most of the visit. We worked the same old puzzle again. Left Brain and I noticed that he scratches his arm pits a lot....I mean, alot. And he kinda whines if you pick him up by his armpits.....something's going on there and we aren't sure what. Left Brain pushed him on the pedal car again....that's becoming an every visit thing because GQ doesn't want to go outside. Toward the end of the visit we did go outside. He likes to play a game where he puts his tobaggan over his eyes and Left Brain snatches him up. He laughs a lot during that game. We had to leave shortly after going outside. GQ threw a tiny fit when we left because he wanted something out of my bag. He kept looking in there and asking for something that wasn't there. We weren't really sure what he wanted but we gave him a few m&m's and that pacified him. He gave us hugs and kisses good-bye.
After our visit we headed back to Nikolaev for something to eat. We ate at the City Center Club, which is like a mall. We ate at a pizza place that tastes alot like Tom's Pizza. We also went to a market below the restaurant and bought some more things for the boys....mainly fruit and cereal. After that we came back to the apartment where we are waiting for a skype session with family and friends. Can you all start to see how much each day is alike? They are all starting to run together. Today was the first day that Left Brain and I REALLY wanted to go home to America. The homesickness is starting to set in!

  1. Be glad you didn't go out in the cold and show up without your coats, the staff and strangers would have all lectured you coming and going at not having common sense...then again it would have all been in Russian...Hang in there! Don't forget to mark this time and remember when your boys are home, around week 4 is when they most likely are SOOOO done with learning new things and just want to go back to what is familiar! God bless your continued journey!

  4. I had a thought on the itchy underarms. Emma used to get eczema in her underarms when she was a baby/toddler. They used to itch her and would become sore after a lot of itching. We got some steroid cream but good lotions like eucercin or aveeno can usually do the same stuff. I hope you can figure out whats bothering him!
