Some of you are probably already aware of this as it happened a while ago and the hubs is so impressed that he hasn't been able to keep his mouth shut about it. Thanks, Left Brian!
And some of you may also know what the object in these photos is.......but for those who don't, it's a valve stem, otherwise known to my female friends as the little thingy on tires that lets air in and out. The one in the photo happens to not have a cap on it, and it's quite dirty, but there's a really good explanation for that.
It just so happens that this valve stem belongs to someone else, someone with whom I am not familiar. So, if you are the person that lost a valve stem on Highway 80 just outside of Murray, I apologize immensely, as I seem to have taken it.
On the way home from errands the other day, I happened to pick this little gem up off of the side of the road by way of the magnets the tire place installed in my latest tires. Not only did I manage to jam this terribly dull object into my tire, but I did it in such a manner (tread side in) that allowed this fantastic invention to "do it's job" and let the air out of my tire. Please note here that I mentioned earlier that it had no cap on it, cause if it had, well, nothing would've happened. But as it stands, the story goes on like this.....I rolled over a small concrete bridge on my way home and I heard this pop sound. (This would be when the valve stem got jammed into my tire). I thought to myself, "that's odd. I must have hit the edge of that bridge just right to make that sound." But given my situation with tires as of....well, my whole life really, I went ahead and checked the tire pressure on all of my tires through the computer system in the dash. Everything initially looked fine, so I kept on trucking. I left the screen in the dash to display the tire pressure and looked over at it now and then, just in case. The pressure started falling in one of my tires, and I knew that pop sound was most likely the cause. I made it home and called the hubs.
This is the point in the story in which I should let you in on something. Hubs gets one of these type of phone calls about once a month. Seriously, lately, it has been more often than that. And it happens so frequently that two things have happened. 1. We are now certain that the tire place is in fact putting magnets in my tires. (not really) and 2. I am acutely aware of the steps to take once I make it home. I know to get a concrete block to slide behind the tire so that the weight of the swagger wagon doesn't sit on the wheels. I also know to call the hubs and give him a heads up, because he may or may not have any plugs left at home. (This is how often he has to plug my tires!). oh, and 3. He usually answers the phone with, "What have you done this time sweetheart?" Bless his patient heart!
So, back to the story, I went through all the steps and called the hubs. His response to the situation was wonderment at what object it could be this time, as he's pulled some crazy things out of my tires over the years.
Later that evening after work, hubs took the tire off of the swagger and began the task. He came in an hour or so later with the valve stem displayed in his hand, just shaking his head. He explained to me that he wasn't sure whether he was mildly upset with me for this continued pattern I seem to be in, or totally impressed at how I managed this one. Though he mostly settled on impressed, he was a bit disturbed when he thought about the speed I had to be traveling to shove such a dull object into my tire.
As a matter of fact, he's still talking about it!
