Now back to the cotton-headed ninny muggins.....
They were so hyped up on sugar Saturday night that they couldn't sit still long enough to fall asleep. Bedtime isn't usually a problem.....but it was that night, and last night too! I knew they needed to get in bed early last night because today was a school day for both of them, but it didn't happen.
And because they didn't actually go to sleep until around 10:45pm last night, having to be up at 6:00am....I knew we were in for a rocky morning, but I didn't imagine how rocky!
The boys actually woke up on their own this morning....the most dreaded part of my morning avoided. Yay! One point for the home team. But they woke up fighting over EVERYTHING! Cranky little boys this morning. I shoulda seen it coming.
We made it through breakfast just fine. Changed clothes, brushed teeth, out the door. I stopped for ten seconds to lock the door as they started getting in the van and buckling themselves in. Apparently Mr. GQ decided that enough was enough and Blue Eyes was gonna have to go. So he pushed him out of the van, Blue Eyes landed on his head....in the gravel driveway. He went BUMP! And simply said, "OUCH!" I didn't think much of it because he knocks his head around ALL OF THE TIME and just pops back up. This time he just stayed there. I ran down the steps...mostly because he didn't get up, so I knew something was wrong. I picked him up and saw a HUGE puddle of blood. I thought, "Oh, crap...this is bad!" I rushed him inside and tried to stop the bleeding so that I could see just how bad it was. I couldn't get it stopped.....he was bleeding EVERYWHERE! ( No one ever told me that ANY head wound will make a kid bleed like a stuck pig...don't be alarmed by the amount of blood). Blood soaked his shirt, my shirt, and a big puddle on the kitchen floor....not to mention a towel and several paper towels before I got it to slow down! I was freaking out on the inside and trying not to let Blue Eyes know that I was un-nerved by the situation. He never cried...I think I must have handled it well. I called my mother in law to come sit with him so that I could drive GQ to school.....he was all but late at this point. Remember, we were heading out the door for school when this happened. She came over and said she thought he would be fine. He hadn't been acting like there was a concussion or even like he didn't feel well. I figured he was fine, but I made an appointment with our pediatrician to take him in after I dropped GQ off at school. Once it clotted, I still couldn't clean it up enough to tell if he needed stitches, so we went to the doctor's office. She cleaned it out good...there was a bunch of dirt, rocks, and blood all matted in his hair. I was afraid to rub on it as hard as she did....that's why she's a doctor and I'm just a mom! It's a good thing we went, it would have most likely gotten infected if she hadn't irrigated it like she did. He did need stitches, but it was a puncture wound, not a cut, so she had to super glue it instead of stitch it. I was OK with that. He's a SUPER busy little boy, and the way I see it that glue keeps him from 1)bumping it open over and over again 2)keeps dirt and junk from getting in there and 3)eases my mind that I did something about it. The doctor's office was more to make me feel like less of a crappy mom and help me believe that I did something about him bumping his head.
To sum it all up.....
He's fine. It's a good thing I took him to the doctor because it would have gotten infected had we not cleaned it out. GQ was worried that he killed his brother when he saw the blood. I assured him he did not! He was fine by the time we got to school. Silver lining: I think seeing that will keep GQ from pushing his brother for a while. :)
Blue Eyes is now having his after lunch nap and I am finished cleaning up the house. All is well. Just a hectic morning.
Hope y'all all have a good day! Happy Monday!
