So, I've not really had time to update you all lately....I've just been posting pictures....well, here goes!
Summer is almost over here in good Ole' KY. The Cossey Crew is gearing up for school! That's right....we are now officially parents of a Kindergartner and a preschooler! It's so crazy how much faster time seems to fly once you have children. It seems like it was yesterday that we returned home from Ukraine.....and it's been 9 MONTHS!!!!
GQ went for his last day of "little school", as he calls it, today. He's currently at a private preschool here in our hometown. He loves his teacher at this school and isn't the least bit excited to go to Kindergarten with a new teacher. The teacher that he has for Kindergarten was actually my Kindergarten teacher! HOW FUN! He starts "big school" next week. GQ and I are going this afternoon for a visit with his new teacher. I hope he does better and is nicer to her than he was at "Back to School Night". He refused to talk to her or look at her. Who knows!?!
We have enrolled Blue Eyes at the private preschool that GQ is attending now. Blue Eyes has been just a few times and the teachers love him....he's so full of energy and fun. Mrs. Regina was sure to tell me that he was NOTHING like his brother! I agreed....he's a MUCH bigger handful! Gotta love him though!
Blue Eyes was screened for preschool earlier this past spring and failed because of his refusal to participate (although the school didn't see it that way). They agreed to let him into the school because he needed lots of help with his speech. At the time, I was sure that the county preschool was probably the best option for him. But, during the screening I became concerned with the abilities of the teachers at this school. They began to ask me if I was at all concerned with his cognitive development! I KNOW, RIGHT!?!?! I thought...anyone that knows this child knows that he is beyond brilliant....but stubborn as they come. In NO WAY was I concerned with his cognitive development!!! For gracious sakes! So, after talking it over with my husband, we decided to send him to the private preschool two full days a week. He loves it there, and is already familiar with the rules at that school. It will be easier on him to just stay there....and MUCH easier on my peace of mind! His speech as improved on it's own so much that he doesn't even need speech therapy a tiny bit! WOW! I guess he is just at that magic age where hearing it is all that he needed. What a blessing.
GQ is doing very well too! He still has some trouble understanding things that teachers want him to do. It's only with instructions for tasks that he has never seen before. He catches on VERY quickly to things though....we aren't at all worried about how he will perform in school!
On a side note...I am looking forward to school days just a bit. For the remainder of August I will be soaking in our pool and relaxing on the days that they are in school all day. What will I do with all of that free time? I am POSITIVE that I will have plenty to do while kid free!
I also wanted to share a story about GQ. I told you all a while back that he wanted a sister....for me to grow one in my belly like Left Brain's sister did for her son when he wanted a little brother. Well, he really hasn't dropped the idea of a sister...but now has decided that going back to the "groupa" to get one is a better option. He recently told Mrs Regina at school that he was getting two sisters from the "groupa" for mama's birthday. He knows that my birthday is the next one in the year...September. Mrs. Regina asked me about this when I went to pick GQ up the other day. I just giggled. I've tried explaining to him that getting sisters is a LONG process, any way we go about it! He doesn't understand why we can't just go to Wal-Mart and get one! He thinks that you can get EVERYTHING at Wal-Mart! That kid cracks me up!
Some of the new sayings that have come up.....
"Hey, Mappa!" : This happens a lot when they are frustrated or excited and mix mama and papa together by accident! It's cute.
"I love you soever soever amen!" They started saying this after hearing a Randy Travis song on the radio..."I'm gonna love you forever and ever, forever and ever amen" It's sweet.
"I no talkin' you" : this one is mostly Blue Eyes, and it happens only when he has been scolded about something.
I hope you all have a wonderful day!
