Today started with another visit to Blue Eyes around 10am...same as always. We were able to play outside today because the weather permitted. It was warmer today and not rainy. Of course we played with the bucket, shovel, walnuts, and sippy cup in tow. He carries them around all at the same time. For the first time Papa busted walnuts for Blue Eyes to eat. He loved them! We tried to give him oranges for snack today. Mr. GQ loves them but Blue Eyes spit the first bite out and wouldn't take another bite for the rest of the day. Besides the Gerber chicken sticks that we brought with us, oranges are the only thing that we know the kid won't eat. He usually eats anything.
After our visit with Blue Eyes we got a taxi to pick us up at the orphanage and went to a children's clothing store. This was one that we hadn't visited before and we found a lot of the things that we still needed. We bought the boys shoes, socks, undershirts, and pajamas. These are all things we had to have for our stay here in Ukraine. We also went to the flea market type place and bought them house-shoes. All of the children here, regardless of gender, wear 3 things. They wear house-shoes for the house and regular shoes for outside. They also wear undershirts under EVERYTHING....even pjs. We bought the boys little white tank tops because that is what they have been wearing so far. And all children here wear tights. Even the boys wear tights under their shorts or pants. I guess it is to keep them warm....but they wear girls tights. Mr. GQ was wearing pink ones the other day. That is one thing we aren't doing....buying them tights. I just can't do it.
Since we were out and about today, we went to eat lunch at the place we went night before last. Left Brain and I ordered the same things as we did the other night because it was safe. I had mashed potatoes and spicy rice and he had mashed potatoes and chicken. I know, BORING! Sasha the driver picked us up at the restaurant and we went to Ochacov to visit with GQ. I fell asleep in the car waiting for GQ's nap time to end. Left Brain and Oksana went upstairs and got GQ without me....they left me sleeping in the car. Left Brain and GQ came downstairs and woke me up! It was cute. We tried both of his pairs of shoes on him and they fit! YAY! We just guessed at his size because the shoes he is currently wearing are in American sizing...we had to convert it to European sizing and it was just a guess. For most of our visit we sat on the curb and drew pictures in a notebook that we later found out he stole from another boy at the orphanage....Oops! We'll have to get that boy a new notebook! We also had snack, played with Spiderman, and colored in a coloring book. GQ played a while with the sprite bottle full of water, shaking it to see the bubbles. He drank the whole bottle full of water in about 5 minutes flat....he was a thirsty boy!
GQ was in a good mood today! He answered to the name we have given him all visit long...GIANT LEAP for him! He didn't fight it even once! Our visit lasted from around 3:45pm to about 5:30pm.
Oksana left us with GQ and went to the inspector's office to finish preparing for court tomorrow. YAY! It's finally here! We are excited about that. Whoo-hoo! We will officially be parents after tomorrow!
We headed back for Nikolaev and had supper at McDonald's. We never eat there in the states, but there is something familiar about it that makes me need it about once a week. Crazy, but true. We went through what they call McDrive and brought the food back to the apartment to eat.
We are now back at the apartment for the night preparing for court with Oksana. She is giving us the run down of the questions they will ask us. Some of the questions she is telling us how to answer so things go well. Like, when they ask us what we want to do....she has told us the list of things to say....adopt these children, change their names, get new birth certificates but not change the date or place of birth....things like that. She is very helpful and has made this process virtually nothing for us. We have only had to give her money and sign our names a few times.....easy cheesy. She has taken care of everything else! YAY for Oksana!
Sorry I made ya'll feel so bad because you didn't skype last night...it's ok, really! I forgot what day it was and that you were out of town.....worry your little heads about something else! I mean it!
We love all of you and are anxious to get home! See you soon!

ReplyDeleteKnow that as you stand there in court today (I picture you standing, but even if you're sitting when they ask you the questions, you'll be standing in my mind) we'll all be right there with you. Ok, so if you go first thing in the morning, technically most of us will be sleeping, but we'll still be rooting for you. I'll dream you a speedy, positive outcome. All of my love. May God be with you.
