Our day began again around 10am with our visit to Blue Eyes. It was a good visit as usual. We had to play inside today because of the rain. We played in the long hallway at the orphanage. There were several other couples there playing with the children that they are in the process of adopting. Today Blue Eyes found a small corridor to the outside. He took Papa inside there (between the two sets of doors) and I hid in the hallway. Each time he would take Papa by the hand and slowly and quietly walk out of the doors for me to pop out of my hiding place to scare him. Each time I would say,"BOO" he would just laugh so hard. Once I really scared him and he gasped really big and held his breath for about half a second before he started laughing. It was cute. We mostly played hide-and-seek all visit long and he swung our umbrella around everywhere he went.
After our visit we went back to the apartment and had baked potatoes for lunch. Oksana went to get our paperwork that was mailed from Kiev. We need these papers for court on Monday, so it was good that they came today. During our lunchtime break I ordered the boys sets of sheets and quilts off of the internet and had them shipped to our house in KY. We needed to do this because we only have one crib set up at home because we didn't know the age or number of children we were adopting. Now we have two twin beds that stack into bunk beds or remain two separate beds. Because they are twin, we had no sheets.....much less ones that match the bedding we already had on the crib. I ordered ones that match so that we can keep the pillows and duvet cover we already have. Plus,we needed to keep it the same for the things I painted on the walls of the bedroom.
Oksana came back to the apartment after her several hour jaunt to retrieve the paperwork and fried cauliflower in sunflower oil. She eats it dipped in mayonnaise - I tried it and it wasn't half bad. We also had some pickles on the plate and they tasted just like our dill pickles at home.
After our internet and rest time we went for another visit with Blue Eyes around 4:30pm. We had to go after 4pm because the children in the orphanage have nap time from about 1:30pm to around 3:30pm. Since Left Brain and I made the decision to only visit Mr. GQ every other day to help save money...we had a free afternoon. We figured we would visit Blue Eyes again because we had nothing else to do. We stayed with him until it was time for him to eat his evening meal. That was right at 6pm. It was another good visit. We had to play inside again because everything was still very wet and the temperature was cool from the rain. As soon as we headed for the hallway he remembered the umbrella from the morning visit. He immediately started swinging it around again and didn't let go of it until the end of the visit. He also walked straight to the corridor and wanted to play hide-and-seek again. That kid loves a good time! We had a funny moment during this visit. There is a little canvas, polyester type tent that looks like a brick house that sits in the corner of the long hallway. Blue Eyes has really kind of ignored it during our visits today but we weren't really noticing it. During one of the hiding spells where Left Brain was the one hiding and Blue Eyes and I were doing the seeking.....Left Brain hid inside this little house thing. Because the opening to the tent was smaller....and Left Brain, as y'all all know, is bigger....he made that little house move around a lot as he was trying to get inside. Of course Blue Eyes was watching this the whole time because he is a 3 year old and he cheats at hide-and-seek. He saw this house moving like crazy and knew it was his Papa. He took me by the hand and we walked toward it because this is how the game had gone until this point....we go look for Papa. As we almost got to the house, Blue Eyes let go of my hand and started running in the other direction with a scared look on his face. Being the goofballs that Left Brain and I are, we couldn't let this go. It had the potential to be too much fun! Left Brain got behind the house and picked it up (shaking it the whole time) and started carrying it toward Blue Eyes. At this point Blue Eyes was sitting on a bench in between Oksana and I. When he saw the house coming toward him, he buried his head in my side. As the house got closer he got so scared that he started crying. To us it was hilarious because otherwise this child is fearless.....but to him it was terrifying. I couldn't stop laughing. Left Brain, of course, backed away with the house and he stopped crying. I was still laughing out loud and Blue Eyes looked at me, with his head cocked to the side, like I was crazy. And I am...nothing new there. It was just so cute and funny that I wish all of you could have been there to see it. For the remainder of the visit he wouldn't walk past that tent. We stayed at the other end of the hall and finished hide-and-seek.
When our visit was over, Left Brain, Oksana, and I walked a short distance to a pizza place around the corner from our apartment. It was good. We seem to be eating pizza a lot because it is familiar. We were glad to know this place was within walking distance for when Oksana leaves us for 10 days.
Now we are back at the apartment and it is 8pm here. We are waiting for our skype sessions with family or hope for at least a phone call. Good afternoon and good night everyone!
The kids get so scared at the orphanage and the staff assist with telling them about monsters under their bed and closets to keep them in bed at night. My two kids are still skiddish when anyone has sudden movements around them. As a child from a traumatic home, I never enjoyed being "scared" and still do not as an adult. I am sure your kids will be fine, but I wouldn't purposefully try to scare them, and stop when you see their are terrified.
ReplyDeleteNo, no. He wasn't terrified. Bad choice of words. He was scared but it was only momentary because Ben kept sticking his head out to show him that it was just Papa. Sorry for the scare. We would never just scare the pee pee out of a kid just for fun. Well mabye, but not this soon. Joking.
ReplyDeletesounds like everything is going well. cant wait till yall get to come home.
ReplyDeleteShame on you! You better not try that at Granny's house!:) You're not to old to spank (did I ever spank you? No? Well it's time then.) Ha I think I remember you and Whitney turning all the lights on because of monsters or something. Your Grandad Gene's aunts and daddy sent him into a dark room where they had set up a dummy in a chair. they thought it was so funny. He would not admit it but he was uncomfortable in the dark the rest of his life. I'll be awake at 3 AM if Miles needs to come to Granny's house for protection from houses that move.
ReplyDeleteOh Granny! He's fine! The funny part about it was that he could see Ben the whole time! And otherwise this child is fearless. It's funny that his fear is something so silly. You know we would never send him into a dark room with a dummy...even if we really wanted to because it would be funny. And we may not be too old for spankings but I bet you might have a little trouble pinning us down these days. Go ahead and try if you feel froggy! :P
ReplyDeleteOf course I know that! Just want you to know I plan to look out for the ggrands just like The GRANDS. Remember I said I never spanked you(I didn't say you didn't need it! Sorry I scared you with the threat!(:0) Love you both! Tomorrow! Tomorrow! I love you Tomorrow. You're only a day away. Yay
