Lately I have been thinking a lot about this whole adoption process and how it is possibly the best representation of the gospel of Jesus Christ that I can think of. If you think about the story of Jesus and what has been done for those of us who have accepted Him as our Savior, you begin to realize the similarities. You see, those of us who are born again weren't saved to mow yards in heaven (as Left Brain would say). Though it could have easily been that way and we would still be happy to be there. God saved us with grace through faith in His Son to be (now listen closely) JOINT HEIRS with Jesus. We are adopted sons and daughters! Joint heirs...that just blows my mind. How undeserving could we be, and how merciful could He be? That concept is incredibly humbling.
Now when compared to the adoption of a child, you can start to see the similarities. Take the average family for instance. Most families have children of their own before making the decision to adopt. We'll go with two biological children. A man who has two biological children of his own makes the choice to allow another child, that has no legal right, into his family. This child (legally) is now joint heirs with the biological children. Sharing everything equally and equal portions. This parent did not have to do this. He had no obligation and his life would have gone on just as fine without having adopted this child. But he did it anyway. Now you see my point?
I think the gravity of the situation has just now hit me. This thing I am doing....not only does it GREATLY benefit these children....but me as well. They will be a constant reminder to me of what God, through Christ on the cross, did for me....undeserving me. How sweet it is.
I hope all of you will get as much of a blessing out of our adoption as I have.
