Ok I’ll get to the question most are asking us… Who are we adopting?
Well, I will tell you a little about how the process works. On Aug 30th the SDA in Ukraine will hopefully issue us an appointment date to visit the SDA (State Department for Adoptions) in Kiev, Ukraine. At our appointment we will be shown files that that should match with our home study approval. Our home study approval is for siblings (2) under the age of 6 with “minor or correctable” conditions. Our request was for siblings, two boys under the age of 4 with minor or correctable conditions. Unfortunately there have been several instances where the SDA shows potential parents only very sick and severely disabled children. If we do not choose a child from our first appointment we can request a second appointment, usually issued within 10 days, to try a second time to choose a child. If we do choose a child/ren to visit we will then begin a journey from Kiev to which ever region the orphanage is in. If we decide to proceed with the adoption of the child/ren we then begin the court process. We are not going in totally blind to this adventure. We are aware of several couples that have gone to Ukraine only to return home empty handed after being shown only very sick and disabled children or shown children who were not completely/legally free for adoption or only shown children older than their home study approval. Only God knows the child or children meant to join our family, and we pray He is preparing “him or them” for us as much as we pray He is preparing us for them!
As you have been during this entire process, you are in our prayers along with those two boys that soon will have a loving home with you and Ben.
